Gallows Lawrence, 58, was arrested by US Authorities in relation to a hit-and-run accident that has had a serious impact on an Indian student’s health, Neelam Shinde. This is huge news.
On February 14, 2025, a 35-year-old graduate student from California State University, Neelam Shinde, was walking on Fair Oaks Boulevard in Sacramento, California around 7 PM when a car struck her from behind and dragged her across the road onto the sidewalk. Shinde was knocked into the air around 12 meters and was left behind critically injured after the hit and run driver sped away.
PREDICAMENT OF THE VICTIM
After the incident, Shinde suffered some serious consequences such as a severe traumatic brain injury and breaks in both of her legs along with her left arm. She was in such a dire condition that it was crucial for her to have a brain surgery as soon as it was possible, which was done at UC Davis Medical Center. Despite all efforts, she remains in a medically induced coma and her prognosis doesn’t really look good.
THE SUSPECT IS TAKEN INTO ARREST
The Sacramento Police Department made the decision to start a thorough investigation to audit the person responsible for the case in question so they could be put to justice.
As a follow-up to ‘their’ reporting, Lawrence Gallows was arrested after the authorities suspected him to have a connection to the car that was loitering at the scene. The family of Shinde, who resides in Satara, Maharashtra India, have had a fair share of difficulties after the incident that continuously posed trouble for them regarding being near Shinde. Troubles did not stop at obtaining visas to the US. The appointments available to them were also not suitable for the next year. The government and many political figures helped after the media showcased the struggles faced by families, which is significantly alarming.
Supriya Sule the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) mentioned how dire the situation has become and asked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for assistance. The United States Embassy was able to assist after receiving the call and expedited the visa process.
As a result of them attending an interview at the US Consulate in Mumbai on 28th February 2025, emergency visas were processed and issued for Tanhaji Shinde, Shinde’s father and Shinde’s brother. After receiving an emergency visa, Tanhaji Shinde said, “We were offered much assistance by the central and the state government of Maharashtra.” We also got help from the journalists. Right now, my daughter is in coma. There is very little that can be done at this point. I wish for her to get better as soon as possible.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has been worried about the whole scenario and has tried to keep in contact with the hospital, Shinde’s family and her friends and other acquaintances. The consulate had also released a communication expressing “sympathy and solidarity” and pledged to keep assisting the family during this difficult time.
